Over 20 new cases and one death reported in P’cherry

Puducherry, Mar 16 :As many as 24 more persons were tested positive for COVID-19 and one died in the last 24 hours ending at 10 AM Today taking the tally of active cases to 180 and death to 673 in the union territory.

According to the Covid 19 status for Tuesday released by the health department, of the 1351 swab tests taken yesterday, 24 tested positive for the virus. 17 new cases were reported in the Puducherry region, five in Karaikal and two in the Mahe region.29 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours.21 of them were from the Puducherry region, five from Karaikal and three from Mahe region.

The lone death was reported in the Karaikal region.

Presently, 76 persons are being treated in the Puducherry region, 12 in Karaikal, nil in Yanam and three in the Mahe region. Another,89 positive cases are under home isolation in all the four regions of the union territory.

So far, 40068 persons were infected by the virus of which 39215 were treated and discharged and 673 died leaving 180 active cases here. The case fatality rate in the UT is 1.68 per cent and the recovery rate 97.87 per cent.

A 57-year-old woman, Indra with Chronic Kidney Disease as comorbidity died in the Karaikal Government hospital yesterday due to COVID Viral Pneumonia, ARDS and Sepsis.

As many as 30150 persons were given the Covid vaccine so far in the UT. This includes 13857 health care workers 5371 front line workers and 10931 general public.(UNI)
