One needn’t panic over detection of AY 4.2 delta variant: TAC Chairman
Bengaluru, Oct 28 : Covid-19 Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) Chairman Dr MK Sudarshan Today said there is nothing to panic over the detection of 17 cases of AY 4.2 delta variant of Covid-19 in Karnataka.
“The average test positivity rate across all age groups in the state has been around 0.3 per cent at present. For schoolchildren it is at 0.13 per cent. Therefore, there was nothing to panic and parents sending children to school should not be scared,” he said.
Dr Sudarshan said a comprehensive discussion on the pandemic situation will be held in the next TAC meeting with Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar. He, however, did not confirm the date of the meeting.
On Tuesday, Dr Sudhakar also had asked people not to panic as the government had taken adequate measures to check the spread of the infection. However, people should not be complacent and should see to it that all Covid-19 guidelines are followed at all times, he added.
As of now, Karnataka has recorded over 29.86 lakh Covid-19 cases with 29.40 lakh people recovering from the infection, according to the state health department bulletin.
The state has an active caseload of 8,430 as on Wednesday, while as many as 38,037 people have succumbed to the infection since March 10 last year.(UNI)
