On August 23, India will observe its first National Space Day.

CHENNAI, JULY 29 :  India will celebrate its maiden National Space Day on August 23 to commemorate the successful accomplishment of Chandrayaan-3 mission on that day last year when the country became the first to land near the hitherto unexplored south polar region of the moon.

August 23 was declared as National Space Day to mark the accomplishment of India’s third Moon Mission Chandrayaan-3 when Vikram Lander made a soft landing on the Lunar surface on that day last year.
ISRO said “Chandrayaan-3 mission accomplished safe and soft-landing of Vikram Lander on the lunar surface on August 23, 2023. With this, India became the fourth country to land on the moon and first to land near the southern polar region of the moon.”

The soft-landing was followed by successful deployment of Pragyan Rover, it said. The landing site was named as ‘Shiv Shakti’ point (Statio Shiv Shakti) and August 23 was declared as the “National Space Day”.
