Nothing in Gaza justifies Israel’s actions, according to a UN expert
HYDERABAD ,JAN 19 : A UN human rights expert highlights numerous examples of Israeli government violations of international law, which have resulted in over three months of murderous warfare in the Gaza Strip.
The UN special envoy on the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, stated at a press conference in Madrid on Thursday that “nothing justifies what Israel has done.”
She declared, “Israel has engaged in a number of extremely illegal and unlawful acts.”
The expert pointed out that in order to “protect people who are not actively involved in combat,” the regime must abide by international humanitarian law. Prisoners of war, civilians, and the ill and injured
Rather, there has been nonstop bombing for more than 100 days, with 6,000 bombs dropped in the first two weeks.
The majority of hospitals are now dysfunctional. Albanese issued a warning, saying, “People are dying now not only because of the bombs but because there is not sufficient health infrastructure to cure them of wounds.” A considerable number of them, the major ones, have been shuttered, bombed, or taken over by the army.
The startling number of children who lose one or both limbs every day is involved in this. Anesthesia was not used during the first two months of this [conflict] to amputate 1,000 children. It is an abomination,” she continued.
Following an assault known as assault al-Aqsa Storm organized by Gaza’s resistance groups, the Israeli authorities declared war on the region on October 7. In parallel, Tel Aviv has been enforcing a total siege on Palestinian land, blocking the movement of food, water, and supplies.
