No lockdown in Telangana: CM

Hyderabad, May 7:Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has announced that there will be no lockdown in the state in the wake of a surge in COVID cases.

He said the imposition of lockdown would make life stand still and would lead to the total collapse of the financial system.

Mr Rao announced this after examining the situation in the states where the lockdown was imposed and where the positive cases have not come down as well as taking into account the past experiences, a release from Chief Minister’s Office here said late on Thursday night.

The Chief Minister spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone about the supply of the required vaccines, Oxygen, and Remdesivir and urged him to supply the same immediately.

He brought to the notice of Mr. Modi that the Oxygen supplies allocated to the state from Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu and Bellary in Karnataka have not been supplied so far.

Since Hyderabad became a medical Hub, people from the bordering states are also depending on

Hyderabad for the medical treatment, Mr. Rao added.

The Chief Minister explained that since people from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka are coming to Hyderabad for treatment there is an alarming increase of burden on the city.

MrRao told the Prime Minister that there is 50 per cent more Corona patients than the Telangana people, who are coming to Hyderabad for treatment and it will have an adverse impact on the availability of Oxygen, vaccines and injections like the Remdesivir.

He said as of date there is the availability of 440 MT of Oxygen per day and it should be increased to 500 MT per day. The availability of Remdesivir is only 4,900 and it should be increased to 25,000, Mr Rao said.

The Chief Minister said the Centre had so far given only 50 lakh doses of vaccine and it should also be increased based on the needs of the state.

He requested Mr Modi to ensure the supply of 2 lakh to 2.5 Lakh doses of vaccine per day and it should be supplied immediately. (UNI)
