Nirmala assesses the level of rain in Southern Tennessee, informs Amit Shah, and requests additional assistance.

CHENNAI, DEC 18    :    As unprecedented rains continued to lash southern districts
of Tamil Nadu for the last two days due to upper air circulation, Union Finance
Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday took stock of the situation and also apprised
Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

In a tweet late tonight, she said she met Mr Amit Shah about the rains and requested
him to provide additional NDRF support, boats and helicopters for rescuing the people
from marooned areas in Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi and Tirunelveli districts.

A couple of areas in Thoothukudi recorded nearly 100 cms of rains, while other
locations in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli, which bore the brunt of the rain fury, received
rainfall in excess of 60 cms.

Ms Nirmala said “This afternoon met Hon. HM @AmitShah ji. Requested him to provide
additional NDRF support —boats, helicopters etc for rescuing people remaining cut-off
due to unprecedented rains in Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi and Thirunelveli districts.
Grateful for the response.”(UNI)
