Puducherry, Jul 10: Cyber Cell police here on Friday arrested a 31-year-old Nigerian national on charges of cheating an Air Hostess.
According to police, Jeslim Mario of Reddiyarpalayam was working as an Air Hostess in a private airline here and was looking for better prospects.
She got an email stating to be from the French consulate offering a job as Air Hostess in French Airways. When she evinced interest, one person contacted her over the phone and asked her to remit Rs.5.25 lakh in a particular account and Jeslim transferred the amount online.
Following this, there was no response from the man and his telephone was found to be switched off.
Jeslim Mario lodged a complaint with the cybercrime police and a case was registered.
Police traced the IP address of the man and came to know that he is Devo Advale from Nigeria and is hiding in Bengaluru.
Police rushed to Bengaluru, arrested him, and brought him to Puducherry.
He was later produced before a court and lodged in the central prison here.
The police are seeking his custody for interrogation when only it will be known whether he cheated any others. (UNI)
