NCP protest against fuel price hike in Pune

Pune, May 17 :The workers of NCP on Monday staged a demonstration here against the Narendra Modi-led government over hike in fuel prices.
The NCP workers, under the leadership of state representative of party Pradeep Deshmukh, feliciated vehicle owners waiting in queue for filling fuel at busy Laxmi Road petrol pump and even garlanded their vehicles.
They also held demonstration at busy Alka Chowk area of the city.
Mr Deshmukh said that the price of petrol has breached Rs 100 in the state and wondered whether these are the ‘Ache Dins’ promised by Mr Modi.
“The price of diesel and petrol has crossed Rs 96 per litre in cities like Pune and Mumbai over past few months, the Modi government has increased the price many times, and now it has surpassed Rs 100 today in just two months,” he said.
Making a frontal attack on the Modi-led central government over rising prices of petrol, CNG and diesel, the NCP leader accused the BJP regime of “extorting money from people” and sought an immediate rollback of the hike in prices of petroleum products.
He alleged that the Modi government has increased excise duty on diesel and petrol prices many times since 2014.

“The BJP has also raised excise duty. They are doing this at a time when the prices of petrol and diesel are continuously dropping in the international market,” he noted.
This was due to wrong policy decisions of the Modi government like demonetization, wrong implementation of Goods and Services Tax, Mr Deshmukh claimed and opined that the economy of the country has come to a standstill.
On the other hand, during the UPA rule the fuel prices in international market were trading higher, but the then central government sold the fuel at very low prices, he added.(UNI)
