nCoV: 237 new cases, two deaths in UT
Puducherry, April 6: As many as 237 more persons were tested positive for Coronavirus and two persons died in the last 24 hours, ending at 10 AM on Tuesday, taking the tally of infection cases to 42,776 and death toll to 686 in the Union Territory.
According to the COVID-19 status released by the health department here, of the 3,018 swab sample tests conducted on Monday, 237 persons tested positive for the virus.
About 145 new cases were in the Puducherry region, 68 in the Karaikal region, nine in the Yanam region, and 15 in the Mahe region.
In the last 24 hours, 139 persons were discharged and 93 of them were from the Puducherry region, 37 from the Karaikal region, and nine from the Mahe region.
One death each was reported from Puducherry and Karaikal regions.
Presently, 360 patients are being treated in the Puducherry region, 51 in the Karaikal region,12 in the Yanam region, and three in the Mahe region.
Another,1,347 people diagnosed positive for COVID were taking treatment under home isolation in all four regions of UT.
So far, 42,776 persons were infected by the virus, and of which 40,317 patients were treated and discharged, 686 people died and 1,773 patients were undergoing treatment in hospitals and home isolation.
The case fatality rate in the UT is 1.60 percent and the recovery rate is 94.25 percent.
A 62-year-old woman Kalaivani, with no comorbidity, died in the government medical college here due to Covid Pneumonia and ARDS yesterday while an 87-year-old woman Devaki with Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension died in the Karaikal Government Hospital due to Covid Pneumonia and Bronchitis.
As many as 82,278 persons were given the COVID vaccine so far in UT. This includes 28,286 healthcare workers, 16,275 frontline workers and 37,717 are general public. (UNI)
