Monsoon 2021: Thane sees 3 mishaps, COVID vax drive paused

Thane, Jun 11 : With the onset of monsoon, Thane city on Friday reported three near-fatal mishaps while the weathermen have predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours.

Taking note of the forecast, all the civic bodies across this district have announced to suspend COVID vaccination drive on Saturday and Sunday.

Talking about the mishaps, Thane civic body RDMC chief Santosh Kadam informed, “A portion of the staircase of a 35-year-old ground plus two-storey building collapsed.”

“Nobody was injured in the incident that took place around noon in the Chowdhary Nivas situated at Dhokali gaon of the city,” he mentioned, adding that the building has been sealed.



In the second mishap, he told, “A compound wall of a Kabrastan fell down on a house in Mumbra bypass road. No one was injured. There were also half dozen cases of tree falling down. But again, none was hurt.”

“A 12-year-old boy from the city’s Chari locality suffered an electric shock this evening and has been hospitalized,” he said while apprising about the third mishap.

In a public appeal, Mayor Naresh Mhaske has asked the citizens to stay indoors considering the weather forecast.

He also urged not to take shelter near trees, dilapilated buildings or compound walls. People should park their cars in safe places to avoid any tree fall or compound fall and damage to cars, he added.

Meanwhile, the Kalyan-Dombivili chief Dr Vijay Suryavanshi surveyed the dilapilated and dangerous buildings along with the NDRF team.(UNI)
