Migrant labour making a dash for hometowns
Ambala, April 19 : Apprehending the repetition of the lockdown, the migrant labourers along with their family members could be seen at the railway stations, bus stands and road sides in Ambala Cantt these days.
The labourers say that they had suffered difficulties after the lockdown was imposed last year hence want to return to their villages as they don’t want to suffer again.
Given the nationwide search in Covid-19 cases there is every possibility of a repetition of a lock down being imposed.
In view of the possibility in coming days, the migratory labourers have started moving to their homes lest they had to walk on foot with empty stomach for many days continuously.
Under the circumstances, the queues of migratory labourers can be seen at the highways, railway station, bus stands.
A group of migratory labourers was seen sitting at the waiting hall Ambala Cantt railway station to go to their native place Katihar in Bihar.
The migratory labourers Vinod Mathur, Chaman Lal, Rinku Chaudhry, Ajay and Shanker stated that they were working with a construction contractor at Kapurthala.
Since coronavirus has started spreading in Punjab and night curfew was imposed, so under such uncertain circumstances they had decided to migrate to the state. They had reached the railway station, but since they didn’t get reservation, therefore they had decided to go by bus.
Labourer Vinod Mathur recollecting last years’ experiences remembered that he had reached his home
in five days after covering the long journey walking on foot and taking a lift from a truck.
They had nothing to eat . The police was repressive.
Now they fear that if the lockdown was repeated, how they would return to their homes.
However, the labourers did not disclose that they were returning for fear of lockdown but said that they were going to attend marriage of relative or to meet the family members lest they were detained to stay here.(UNI)
