Metro services to remain suspended for a week: DMRC

New Delhi, May 9 :  In the wake of revised guidelines issued by the Delhi government on

the extension of COVID-19 lockdown in the National Capital, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation

(DMRC) on Sunday said metro services on all its lines will remain suspended for passenger

or essential services from May 10 till 0500 hrs on May 17.

The DMRC issued a statement after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the

extension of COVID-19 lockdown for one more week, in a bid to stem the spread of the dreaded virus.

Addressing a digital press conference, Mr Kejriwal said, ‘We must remember that ‘Jaan Hai Toh Jahan Hai’, therefore, this lockdown will be stricter and the Delhi Metro will not be plying from May 10.’

‘In the wake of revised guidelines issued today by the Govt. of NCT of Delhi, on the extension of Curfew in Delhi for the containment of Covid-19, the Delhi Metro services on all its Lines shall also remain suspended for passenger/essential services from 10.05.2021 till 5:00 AM of 17.05.2021,’ the DMRC said in a statement.

Last month on April 20, the DMRC had decided to revise its operational plan to offer more capacity in compliance with 50 per cent seating provision in the Metro during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Services during morning (7AM to 11AM) and evening (4PM to 8PM) peak hours across the

network were available with a headway (frequency) of 15 minutes.

For rest of the hours of the day, services across the network were available with a frequency of 30 minutes.

Notably, the National Capital is already under lockdown since April 19, 2200 hrs.(UNI)
