Meenu Agarwal: Resurgence of Trends Tells Us About Future of Interior Design

India, Sept 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Having served in the Interior design industry for almost two decades, Meenu Agarwal examines trends that are making a comeback.

The world of interior design has always been defined by trends of a particular era. In its journey, the industry continues to be inspired by art styles and fashion that have been spotted in the past. Meenu Agarwal, Founder and Director of MADS Creations – a Delhi-Gurugram based interior design firm – shines a light on some prominent design trends which are making the return.

Brass

“Places like kitchens and bathrooms have long been fitted with stainless steel and silver surface hardware. They are subtle and blend nicely into the background”, says Meenu Agarwal. She adds, “People are increasingly going for the more vibrant and colorful touch of brass. It brings out the fixtures and offers a pleasant contrast to the lighter color of the rooms.

Maximalism

For the last decade, the concept of “minimalism” has seemingly taken over almost every space. It has been incorporated by leading global brands in their logos and advertisement campaigns. Naturally, its effect on the interior design segment cannot be understated either. But the trend of “maximalism” from the 80s is witnessing a revival today.

The simplicity of space is being accentuated by brighter patterns, extra items on furniture, and showpieces. There is a revival of excessive and complex characteristics in design elements. The philosophy of aesthetic of excess and elaboration of detail are returning with maximalism.

Freestanding bathtubs

“In today’s stressful times, mental and psychological well-being is being recognised by people across the world. They are indulging in activities and hobbies which replenish the physical as well as emotional energy,” says Agarwal explaining today’s lifestyle. She adds that inside bathrooms, self-care is being provided by delicate bathtubs. A rejuvenating and soothing long bath is a popular design choice these days and is seeing a rise in demand.

Traditional freestanding baths have that classic feel about them and consist of slipper baths and roll-top baths. This comfort is further improved with the supporting claw feet attached alongside it.

Beige setup

Another reappearance from the 90s era is the soft and graceful shade of beige. It once ruled every surface and item within a space, but soon found itself to be swapped with bright and grey textures.

Nevertheless, the elegant beige setup is back. And it is a highly suitable design choice, be it for kitchen cabinets, bedroom cupboards, or living room pieces.

Meenu Agarwal MADS Creations recommends using the color code. She says,” Beige setup was once deemed as a mainstream choice, but people have soon realized that it is to stay forever.”

Rounded furniture

Meenu Agarwal says that she has noted an uptick in the demand for furniture with curved edges and round lines. The weird albeit interesting shapes are an expression of individuality and distinctiveness.

People are saturated with the minimalist and orderly layout for the past decade or two. And are exploring personalized designs, with little interest in the conventional models.

Color in the kitchen

Although more time is spent in bedrooms, living rooms, and office spaces, it is the kitchen where the magic happens. In order to give this sanctified place its due importance, people have begun to complement their kitchen with color. The warm and bright shades are abundantly striking features that enhance the aura of the space.

These trends are gaining traction in a frenzy and are likely to sustain for a longer period of time. The vivacity of these fashion tricks speaks aloud about how small steps can create a better environment to live in. (UNI)
