Marathwada region registers 6,188 Covid cases, 160 fatalities

Aurangabad, May 5 :Covid situation continues to remain grim in the eight districts of the Marathwada region of Maharashtra as the region recorded 6,188 new Covid cases and 160 fatalities in the past 24 hours, according to the health authorities.

Details from all the district headquarters collected by UNI show that out of the eight districts of the region, Aurangabad district was the worst-affected as it recorded the highest number with 981 cases and 43 deaths, followed by Latur with 1217 cases and 35 deaths, Parbhani had 844 cases and 20 deaths,Beed with 1499 new cases and 19 deaths, Nanded 490 cases and 15 deaths, Jalna had 306 cases and 13 deaths, Osmanabad registered 786 cases and 11 deaths and Hingoli 65 cases and 4 deaths.

Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours, 51,880 fresh cases of COVID-19 were recorded across the state, mounting the total number of infections to 48,22,902.

The state also registered 891 more deaths, taking the death toll to 71,742.

Meanwhile, a record 65,934 patients were recovered in the state, taking the total number of recoveries to 41,07,092.

The state’s recovery rate currently stands at 85.16 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.49 per cent.

At present, there are 6,41,910 active patients across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals.

In view of the rising number of cases, the state government has extended strict restrictions in the state till May 15 under the initiative of ‘break the chain’, exempting emergency services.(UNI)
