Maoists menace : ‘new outposts’ to come up on Telangana-Chhattisgarh border areas: DGP
Hyderqabad, Dec 31 : To achieve government’s vision to keep the state free of Maoist activities and to tackle their menace on border areas, Telangana police is strengthening its force by setting up of ‘new outposts ‘with the support of the central government mainly on Telangana-Chhattisgarh border areas, state Director General of Police (DGP) M Mahender Reddy said Today.
Addressing the year-end review press conference here, Mr Reddy said that Maoists activities were confined to the bordering areas between Telangana and neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
Out of more than 100 district committee members, 70 per cent are from Chhattisgarh and the remaining 30 percent are from Telangana but all are staying and operating from Chhattisgarh area, he said.
The desperate efforts of CPI (Maoist) to revive the movement in Telangana are effectively thwarted by the police, the DGP said that ‘no active ‘ Under Ground Armed Formations of CPI ( Maoist) are noticed in the state.
In 2021, 98 maoists were arrested, while 133 of them surrendered including two District Committee Members, four Area Committee Members and eight Dalam Members of CPI (Maoist), Mr Reddy said.
The police seized eight firearms, ammunition and explosives and Rs.1.26 lakh in cash, he said.
Timely dissemination of information led to the occurrence of three Exchanges of Fires (EoF) on December 27 in which six Naxalites were killed at Pesalapadu forest area bordering Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem. The joint operation was carried out by Telangana and Chhattisgarh police, the DGP added.(UNI)
