Manipur police launch an investigation into a video of harassing women
Imphal, July 20 :Manipur Police have filed a case after a video emerged of two women being paraded naked by unknown miscreants.Police said the video was taken on May 4 last. A person was picked up by police, and massive search operations were conducted after the video came to light.
Manipur Police has registered a case of abduction, gang rape and murder at Nongpok Sekmai police station, the police further said.State Police are making an all-out effort to arrest the culprits at the earliest.People from across the state condemned the incident and demanded punishment of those involved in the crime. Various individuals and women’s bodies have also condemned the incident.
After clashes started on May 3 in Manipur between two communities, a large number of videos have emerged. Most of the videos were found offensive, inhumane, and to stop the spread of rumours, the government has banned the internet in the state.Meanwhile, curfew was relaxed from 5 am to 2 pm in the city areas. The relaxation differed from place to place in the state.Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured to take appropriate actions against the culprit, and Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has discussed the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other central leaders.(UNI)
