Main Panchanganga river overflowing due to heavy rains in western parts of Kolhapur dist

Kolhapur, July 10 : Districts main Panchanganga river was overflowing today and water came out from its bed with heavy rainfall continuing to lash the western parts of the district including Gaganbavda, Shahuwadi, Radhanagari, Chandgad and Ajara tehsils while rainfall continued in the catchment areas of all 14 irrigation dams in the district.
With continued heavy rainfall, the main Panchaganga river was overflowing for the second time today after reduced water level in two days. Total 42 ‘Bandharas’ (weirs) including Rajaram, Survey, Rui, Ichalkaranji, Terwad, Shirol, Shignapur were overflowing and about 60 villages submerged , while water level of other rivers including Bhogavati, Kumbhi, Kasari, Tulshi were increasing rapidly and it’s water came out of its beds at various places in rural areas.
With overflowing Rajaram and Shignapur bandharas, the vehicle traffic on Kasba bavda-Vadnge-Nigve and Shignapur-Chikhali road totally closed and diverted on other routes.
The water level of Panchanganga river at Rajaram Bandhara in Kasba-Bavda, a suburb of the city, was recorded at 32.11 feet at 1100 hours Sunday morning.The alert level is at 39 feet and danger level at 43 feet.
According to district collector whether office, rainfall recorded in the western parts of the district during last 24 hours ending 0800 hours Sunday morning. The highest rainfall recorded in Gaganbavda with 102.8 mm followed by Shahuwadi tehsil with 81 mm, Chandgad 80.2mm.
With heavy rainfall recorded in all fourteen irrigation dams catchment areas, the highest rainfall fall recorded in catchment area of Patgaon irrigation dam with 225 mm followed by Ghatprabha 196 mm in last 24 hours till 0800 hrs.
Rainfall recorded In catchment areas of other irrigation dams as Radhanagari-86 mm, Tulshi-117, Warna-120, Dudhganga-69, Kadavi-82, Kasari-68, Kumbhi 72, Chikotra-58, Chitri 65, Jagamhatti-104, Jambhare 121 and Kode-132mm(Kode irrigation dam filed with its capacity) rainfall fall recorded in last 24 hours ending at 0800 hours Sunday morning.(UNI)
