Kolhapur, Sep 26 : Banned tobacco worth Rs 21 lakh was seized and one person arrested for allegedly smuggling the contraband here, informed the Gandhinagar Police today.
The accused has been identified as Sameer Arun Patel (45), a resident of Satara district.
Acting on a tip-off, a trap was laid this morning on the Pune-Bangalore national highway but the accused got suspicious and attempted to sped away.
But, the cops chased the vehicle and intercepted it near the Uchagaon village. The checking of the vehicle led to the discovery of tobacco products, stated Inspector Satyraj Ghule who led the operation.
The vehicle has also been impounded, he told, adding that DySP R R Patil is present at the spot and guiding further probe.(UNI)
