Mah: Water level in the Jayakwadi dam fills up to 75 percent

Aurangabad (Maharashtra), Sep 23: The water level of one of the biggest Jayakwadi dams known as ‘Nathsagar’ today morning crossed 75 percent of its total capacity after receiving a heavy inflow of over 13,000 cusec per second from the upstream dams of Nashik and Ahmednagar districts which were already filled up due to heavy rains.

The Water Resources Department bulletin stated that Jayakwadi is currently holding 2340 Million Cubic Meter(MCM)out of a total of 2900 MCUM, including dead storage which is above 75 percent of its’ total capacity as compared to 98 percent last year on the same date.

The water from the dam can now be discharged into downstream facilities anytime now, they added.

The Jayakwadi dam supplies water to Aurangabad, Jalna, and to over 200 villages and three MIDCs and also for irrigation purposes to several hectors lands in four districts of Marathwada. (UNI)
