L&T arm bags contract to construct Central Secretariat buildings in Lutyen’s Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 28 : Construction major L&T Today said that it had bagged a ‘large’ order for its Buildings & Factories business from Central Public Works Department (CPWD) to construct Common Central Secretariat buildings in the Lutyen’s Delhi.
The project is scheduled to be completed in 24 months.
L&T did not disclose the value of the contract but said that projects worth Rs 2,500-5,000 crore are classified as large project.
With a built-up area of about 48.11 lakh square feet the buildings will have a ground floor, upper ground floor plus six storeys with two basements. The group’s construction arm would also carry out operation and maintenance works for 5 years.
In an official announcement, L&T said that the project involves the construction of cabins, cubicles and open work halls for secretaries, additional/joint secretaries along with their private secretaries, deputy secretaries/directors, under secretaries, section officers and assistant secretaries.
“The scope of work also involves demolition, civil works, finishes, external development, furniture, related MEP works and operation & maintenance for 5 years,” it said.
Elaborating on the significance of the project, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) CEO & MD S N Subrahmanyan said that the project will be one of its kind in terms of sheer scale of work to be executed within stringent timelines with highest safety and quality standards.
“It is also of strategic importance for it will realize the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s dream of strengthening governance infrastructure by building new facilities for India’s Parliament, an efficient and sustainable Central Secretariat to house all the ministries of the Government of India,” he said in a statement.(UNI)
