Lady doctor from Lucknow airlifted to KIMS Secunderabad for lung transplant

Hyderabad, Jul 11: A female resident doctor of Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Lucknow has been airlifted to KIMS Secunderabad here for a Lung transplant.
Dr. Sharda Suman, a postgraduate resident at RMLIMS’s gynecology department, had contracted Covid-19 on April 14, KIMS hospitals said in a release here on Saturday.
She was 32 weeks pregnant then and her health condition deteriorated severely due to Covid. So, she was put on a ventilator and emergency C-section surgery was done on May 1st to save the child.
After the delivery, Dr. Suman was put on ECMO support. But, her condition didn’t improve despite the ECMO support.
So, the RMLIMS director Dr. Sonia Nityanand constituted a 3 member committee that recommended that she should undergo a lung transplant.
As her family is not in a financial position to afford the lung transplant charges, Dr. Nityanand personally met the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, and explained the situation.
He immediately sanctioned Rs.1.50 crores required for the procedure.
After consulting the hospitals in Hyderabad and Chennai, they finally decided to undergo the transplant procedure at KIMS hospitals, where already several transplants were done with utmost success.
Dr. Sharda Suman arrived at KIMS hospitals through air ambulance.
A green corridor was formed with the help of the Hyderabad police department to bring the patient to the hospital without any delay. (UNI)
