K’taka Min asks Cong to rethink Mekedatu rally

Bengaluru, Jan 6 : Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra Today  asked Congress leaders DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah to rethink their plans of launching the Mekedatu padayatra at a time when Covid cases were surging.

“Given the seniority and experience of Opposition leader Siddaramaiah and KPCC president DK Shivakumar in public life, I request them to understand the concerns of the people and the government and rethink on Mekedatu padayatra,” he told reporters here.

The statement comes in the wake of Congress’ adamancy to go ahead with the rally that is aimed at building pressure on the Bommai government to start work on balancing the reservoir project.

Inspite of the state government imposing ban on political protests and rallies, including padayatra, the Congress has not called off its 10-day rally that begin on Sunday.

Jnanendra also warned of strict action against violators of Covid restrictions that began just days back.

“The restrictions also applies to BJP. Our party has cancelled a three-day programme in the city. I request the Congress also to postpone padayatra,” he said.(UNI)
