Kerala’s Zika virus cases rise to 61

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 29 : With five more people have tested positive to the Zika virus, the total number of affected cases rose to 61 in Kerala Today.

A 53-year-old man from Neyyattinkara, a 44-year-old woman from Pettah, a 27-year-old woman from Nemom, a 32-year-old woman from Vellayambalam, a 36-year-old woman from Thiruvananthapuram were identified with the virus infection, Health Minister Veena George said in a press release here this evening.

Out of the 61 cases, 54 people tested negative till this day, and the rest of them are under medical observation.

Earlier, for the first time in Kerala, a 24 year old pregnant woman tested positive for Zika virus. Later, she recovered within six days and gave birth to a healthy baby at a private hospital, KIMSHEALTH, here.

Zika virus disease is a new occurrence in the state now grappling with the Covid pandemic.(UNI)
