Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai reacts to PM Modi-Gowda meet in Delhi
Hubballi, Dec 1 : Following PM Narendra Modi and JDS Supremo HD Deve Gowda’s meeting in New Delhi, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai Today said senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa and JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy will take a final call on forging an alliance for MLC elections.
“The Prime Minister (Modi) and Deve Gowda have discussed several issues including the alliance at local level. Senior leaders BS Yediyurappa and HD Kumaraswamy will take the final decision,” he told reporters here.
He was asked a question on the meeting between Modi and Gowda in New Delhi.
After meeting Modi, Gowda told mediamen about the JDS having a pre-poll truck with BJP for Legislative Council elections in the state and added that he has told Modi that state-level leaders from JDS and BJP have to take a decision on forging an alliance.
Earlier, Yediyurappa said he had sought the support from JDS in seats where the regional party is not contesting.
On December 10, elected representatives of local bodies will choose 25 members to the Legislative Council. This election will give BJP control the Council with a majority.
The BJP and Congress are contesting in 20 seats whereas the JDS in just six where it is confident of winning.
Bommai ruled out any possible damage to victory prospects of BJP candidate Pradeep Shettar due to a rebel candidate in Legislative Council election in Haveri. “The man who claims to be from BJP had contested APMC polls as Congress candidate. He has no firm stand. He will not make any impact in the election. Victory of our candidate Pradeep Shettar is assured.” Bommai said.
Replying to a question about the propriety of assigning the probe into alleged commission in tender process to Principal Secretary of the concerned department, Bommai said, “it is the engineers who decide allotment of tenders, not the Principal Secretaries. In fact Principal Secretaries are the appellate authorities. So they have been authorised to probe.”(UNI)
