JUSL’s Rs 2104 cr multi-cargo Greenfield captive jetty receives environmental clearance

Bhubaneswar, April 13 : The all-weather, multi-cargo, greenfield Captive Jetty of JSW Utkal Steel Ltd(JUSL) with handling capacity of 52 MTPA project with an estimated cost of Rs 2104 crore received environmental clearance on Tuesday last. On Monday JSW Utkal Steel Ltd (JUSL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of JSW Steel Ltd, received the environmental clearance (EC) for setting up a greenfield Integrated Steel Plant (ISP) of 13.2 million tonnes (MTPA) crude steel per annum in Odisha. The jetty is proposed along the waterfront of the Jatadhari Muhan river and in the coastal waters of the Bay of Bengal, the east coast of India. The proposed project is expected to boost revenue for Odisha and the Centre in the form of various taxes and duties and there will be 72,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities through various phases of the integrated steel plant project, JSW sources said. The Jetty is located adjacent to the steel plant on the bank of the Jatadhari River near Jatadhari Muhan and shall cater to the inbound and outbound cargo requirements of the ISP helping it reduce the infrastructure cost for the production of steel. The 13.2 MTPA crude steel ISP also comprises a captive power plant (CPP) of 900 MW capacity, and a cement grinding & mixing unit of 10.0 MTPA. Iron ore for the ISP shall be sourced through slurry pipeline from a 30.0 MTPA Iron Ore Grinding & Desliming Plant proposed in the Keonjhar district in Odisha. The terms of reference (TOR) were granted in October 2018 and the public hearing (PH) for the proposal was completed successfully by State Pollution Control Board, Odisha (OSPCB) in December 2019, as per the EIA notification. A key component of achieving energy conservation would be the development of an Energy Management Action Plan. The Energy Management Action Plan would be consistent with the energy conservation measures during both the construction and operation phases.(UNI)
