J&K doc elected new JAKASI Chairman
Jammu, Mar 2 : A renowned surgeon from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr (Prof) Sanjay Kumar Bhasin on Wednesday has been elected as new President (Chairman) of the Jammu and Kashmir Chapter of Association of Surgeons of India (JAKASI) for 2022-2023 in the recently held elections for the prestigious academic body of the surgeons. Dr. Bhasin, Professor of Surgery from Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, a handout issued here said he has been unanimously elected. Dr. Iqbal Saleem Mir, Professor of Surgery from GMC Srinagar and 17 members from across J&K and Ladakh have also been elected for the Executive Committee of the state chapter, said the official communiqué. It said the election results declared by Prof. Nisar Chowdari (Former HoD Surgery, SKIMS and Election Officer) reads as, “Dr. Sanjay Kumar Bhasin newly elected President (Chairman) of JAKASI is authorized to call for Executive Body Meeting for further action in this regard”. It is worth mentioning here that Association of Surgeons of India is the largest Surgeons body of India and second largest in the world and Jammu and Kashmir Chapter is one of the prestigious chapters of this academic body. The chapter was formed in 2009 and Dr Bhasin is the sixth Chairman of the Chapter since its inception. Prior to that he has remained joint secretary for two terms and for last five years he remained as longest serving Honorary Secretary of the JAKASI alongside Prof. Fazl Parry as Chairman of JAKASI from 2017 till date. Notably, Dr Bhasin has 30 years standing as medical professional and philanthropist and 22 years standing as a dynamic surgeon and is known to be a versatile orator, able administrator, national faculty of ASI for Regional Refresher Courses, recipient of Dr A K Sensaram Oration, researcher with three dozen research papers in national and international journals.
