J&K BJP demands reservation of Assembly seats for KPs, refugees

Jammu, Jul 8: Terming the Delimitation of 1995 ‘factually incorrect and biased’, Jammu and Kashmir BJP on Thursday demanded political reservation for Kashmiri Pandits and refugees of Pakistan-occupied-Jammu and Kashmir(PoJK).

“We have tabled every data after 1947 and explained in detail what J&K has faced under the leadership of some parties,” Ravinder Raina, president J&K BJP told reporters after meeting the Delimitation Commission.

He was accompanied by former Deputy Chief Ministers Dr. Nirmal Singh and Kavinder Gupta, former MLA Ranbir Pathania, and Chief Spokesperson Sunil Sethi.

Mr. Raina said that the BJP demanded justice for the Scheduled Caste community, political reservation for PoJK refugees of eight seats in the Legislative Assembly, and one each seat reserved in North, South, and Central Kashmir for displaced Kashmiri Pandits.

“The reservation for Scheduled Tribes, Gujjar-Bakkerwals was also demanded as they faced neglect for 70 years at the hands of NC, PDP governments,” he said.

Mr. Raina added that the delegation has appealed that the Delimitation of Assembly seats must be done on the basis of six points of the Constitution. (UNI)
