Jharkhand Boat Tragedy: Search operation ends, total 14 bodies recovered

Jamtara, Mar 1 : The district administration and the NDRF have called off the search operations after recovering a total of 14 bodies from the Barakar river following the boat capsize incident which had taken place on late Thursday evening here in Jharkhand Jamtara DC Faiz Ahmed Mumtaz who himself kept monitoring the entire search and rescue operations said that a total of 14 bodies have been recovered from the water which have been handed over to the family members after postmortem to perform their last rites. He said that Chief Minister Hemant Soren has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each for the kin of the deceased and the district administration is working to provide the money to the people as soon as possible. Immediately after the incident on Thursday evening a team of NDRF from Deoghar was called on the spot for search operation but as darkness fell the efforts were called off. On Friday also the search operations did not aid any results after which NDRF teams from Ranchi and Patna equipped with sonar technology were called to join the search work. As three teams started the search work in which the villagers also helped on Saturday body of a woman was recovered and alongwith that 8 motorcycles and two bicycles and the ill fated boat was too pulled out from the water. On Sunday seven bodies including that of four members of a family were taken out from water while on Monday six more bodies were taken out from the water. Assitant commandant of NDRF Vinay Kumar Singh said that the search operations has ended. He said that help extended by the villagers also benefited the teams involved in the search operations which continued for 93 hours.(UNI)
