JD(S) leader K Krishnankutty, new Electricity Minister of Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, May 20 :Janata Dal (S) leader K Krishnankutty representing Chittur Assembly Constituency in Palakkad took the charge as new Electricity Minister of Kerala on Today.
The JD(S) leader, who was the Water Resources minister (2019-21) in the previous Pinarayi Vijayan Government, won the Chittur seat by a margin of 33,878 votes. CPI(M) leader MM Mani was the Electricity minister in the previous Left Government.
K Krishnankutty, currently party’s national executive member, was also the former state president of JD(S) in Kerala.
He held various responsibilities including KPCC member, State Treasurer of National Labour Organisation, President of Perumatty Service Co-operative Bank, Vice President of Palghat District Co-operative Bank, Director of Kerala State Co-operative Bank, Agriculture Processing and Marketing Society President and State Agriculture Policy Making Committee Chairman (2011-16)
A native of Chittur in Palakkad, K Krishnankutty is a farmer and an expert in inter-state river-water sharing treaties. He is also known for a strong supporter of Cooperative Movement in Kerala.
Born to the son of Kunjukutty and Jankai at Ezhuthani in Chittur in August 13, 1944, he started his political career with the Congress party in 1964.
He also represented the Chittur Assembly Constituency in 1980, 1982, 1991 and 2016. He became a minister in the first Pinarayi Vijayan Ministry after replacing Mathew T Thomas, the party’s legislator from Tiruvalla.
Krishnankutty was instrumental in implementing many programmes including the renovation of Moolathara Regulator, several drinking water supply projects and inter-state water hub during his tenure in the previous LDF Government.
He is married to Vilasini and has four children, K Latha, K Narayanan Kutty, K Ajayan and K Biju.(UNI)
