Jayakwadi dam decreases the release of excess water on the 9th day
Aurangabad, Oct 7: The Irrigation Department authority today morning decreased the discharge of the flooded water from Jayakwadi dam following the slow down in the inflow from upstream dams from Nashik and Ahmednagar district.
According to the sources, on Thursday i.e. the ninth consecutive day at 0800 hours, the authorities decreased the height of the eighteen gates of the dam to 1.5 feet from two feet. 28296 cuses per second of water is being discharged downstream of river Godavari.
At present, the dam is maintaining 98.24 percent stocks with a height of 1521.68 feet and 463.808 in meters with an inflow of 37,728 cusecs of water per second.
On September 29 the authorities started releasing water which has continued since till date.
The authorities increase or decrease the release of water from the dam from time to time depending upon the situation.
Due to the heavy discharge of water into the Godavari river, villages in Jalna, Beed, Parbhani, and Nanded districts of the region were flooded.
The administrations here have issued alerts to the residents of the villages near the river not to venture around the bay of the river. (UNI)
