Japan’s prime minister discusses security concerns behind bulletproof glass.

TOKYO, JULY 31 : Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was protected by bulletproof panels while speaking to reporters in Mie Prefecture amid security concerns following the assassination attempt on US presidential candidate Donald Trump, Japan’s local media reported on Wednesday.

Earlier in July, Japan’s National Police Agency ordered increased security measures for politicians following the assassination attempt on Trump.

On July 8, 2022, former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was fatally shot while speaking during his campaign speech in Nara Prefecture. Last April, an assassination attempt was also made on incumbent Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during a speech. In this regard, personal belongings began to be checked at performances, a pass through the frames was introduced, and the distance between the speaker and the audience was increased.

On July 13, a gunman attempted to assassinate Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, but Trump evaded death by tilting his head at the last second and only sustained a wound to his right ear.(UNI)
