IUML worker hacked to death

Kannur, April 7:  A 22-year-old Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) worker was hacked to death by alleged CPI(M) workers at Pullukara near Panoor on Wednesday.
According to the police, the deceased was identified as Paral Manzoor of Pullukara. His brother Muhasin (21) suffered serious stab injuries in the attack that took place around 2030 hrs on Tuesday after the Kerala Assembly election ended.
Police said Manzoor and UDF booth agent Muhasin suffered stab injuries on their legs.
Manzoor succumbed to his injuries around 0130 hrs on Wednesday.
Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) called a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Koothuparamba to protest against the murder.
A tense situation prevailed in Panoor and nearby areas and a large number of police were camping there and the situation is under control, police said.
Police took into custody one CPI(M) worker. A case was registered against a 14- member gang in this connection.
Few women were also suffered minor injuries in a bomb attack after country-made bombs were hurled by alleged CPI(M) workers and have been admitted at a private hospital at Thalassery.
An altercation between LDF and UDF agents reported following an open vote in 149 and 150 booths on the poll day and suspected that it led to an attack against the IUML workers.
In another attack, Kasaragod district Yuva Morcha unit Vice-president Sreejith sustained serious stab injuries on his legs in an alleged attack by CPI(M) members at Parakalil and he has been admitted to a private hospital at Mangalore.
A clash was reported between CPI(M) and BJP workers at Parakalil near Ambalathara on Tuesday night. (UNI)
