Islamists should be granted a 5% reservation in school: AIUB official
NAGPUR, DEC 14 : Coinciding with ongoing winter session of the Maharashtra Assembly, veteran social worker, activist and politician, Saleem Sarang, national president of Wakf wing of All India Ulema Board, led a mammoth ‘dharna’ here on Thursday demanding restoration of five per cent reservation in education to members of the Muslim community.
A delegation, led by him, met Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who assured him to look into ther demand positively.
Before the ‘dharna’ held at the Yashwant Stadium in city, Sarang, joined by hundreds of activists, offered tributes to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, the chief architect of Constitution, at Deekshabhoomi in the state’s winter capital.
Even after the Bombay High Court has approved five per cent reservation in education for the Muslim
community, it has not been implemented in Maharashtra till date, he complained.
“It is dangerous for democracy in India that the government did not implement reservation approved by the court. Our demand is that this reservation should be implemented as early as possible,” Sarang said.
Over the past few months, he has shot off letters to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and two Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, but he has not yet received any response from either.
Sarang has also demanded compulsory teaching of Arabic language in Urdu schools run by the state
government and local bodies.(UNI)
