Infrastructure in Telangana govt medical colleges woefully inadequate : Dr Purohit

Hyderabad, Aug 1 : The infrastructure in umpteen government medical colleges in Telangana is woefully inadequate, Dr Naresh Purohit, Executive Member of the Federation of Hospital Administrator said here on Monday.
There is lack of medical equipment, coupled with severe staff shortages and gross neglect of hygiene in eight teaching hospitals, he said.
Expressing his concern on the numerous problems that the state’s medical colleges face, Principal Investigator of the Indian Medical Academy for Preventive Health Dr Purohit told UNI here that most teaching hospitals don’t have medicines, CT scan or an MRI equipment.
He averred that there is a severe lack of manpower and other infrastructure in the eight new medical colleges in Jangaon, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Khammam, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Rajanna Sircilla, and Vikarabad in the state.
Dr Purohit alleged that the shortage of manpower that many teaching hospitals are experiencing are a result of the government’s sluggish recruitment process.
He pointed that the Ramagundam Medical College only has 120 beds, despite the fact that more than 300 beds are required to serve the number of patients who visit the hospital. There should be six operating rooms in the hospital, but there are only two.
The Noted Epidemiologist also averred that it is shameful that the government is ignoring government colleges and hospitals which once had the very best talent in the country to benefit private hospitals.
It certainly does not augur well for a government that keeps harping on the slogan ‘health for all’ to ignore government medical colleges and hospitals that are fundamental to the public health system, Dr Purohit added.(UNI)
