India has taken up desecration of Gandhi statue by Khalistani elements with US: MEA

New Delhi, Jan 28 : Following the desecration of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi by Khalistani elements in Washington and some other cities abroad, India said Today  it has taken up the matter with respective governments and conveyed its concerns. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, in a briefing, said that India has also requested a thorough investigation into the incidents, and action against the perpetrators. There were also reports that the Khalistani elements had surrounded the Indian embassy in Washington, on January 26, and the embassy was placed under the guard of the US Secret Service. “Let me state that we attach utmost priority to the security of our diplomats abroad and the premises in which they work and live in. “We work closely with local authorities and host governments to ensure that adequate security is provided. “There have been some recent instances where radical elements have tried to vandalize diplomatic premises abroad and disrupt functioning of the missions. “Adequate measures were taken against such attempts. There was also an attempt to desecrate the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Washington DC. “We have taken up all these unfortunate incidents with the host governments and conveyed our concerns. We have requested a thorough investigation, action against all those involved and prevention of such incidents from happening in the future.” Khalistani elements desecrated the status of Mahatma Gandhi in Washington DC and surrounded the Indian embassy there, as well as in London, and Toronto, among other places on January 26.(UNI)
