India continues to show downtick in COVID cases; 50,848 test +ve, 1,358 die

New Delhi, Jun 23 : India reported 50,848 new cases of Covid-19 during the past 24 hours while 1,358 more fatalities were recorded in the same period, the Union Health Ministry said Today.

With fresh additions, the country surpassed the grim milestone of 3 crore infections since the onset of the pandemic while the death toll soared to 3,90,660.

The active cases declined by 19,327 to stand at 6,43,194, the lowest count in past 82 days. It is now 2.14 per cent of the total caseload.

Of the fresh fatalities, 482 were reported from Maharashtra, 194 from Tamil Nadu, 141 from Kerala, 139 from Karnataka and so on. The cumulative fatality rate stood at 1.30 per cent.

The daily recoveries for the 41st consecutive day outnumbered the daily new cases. The past 24 hours saw 68,817 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 2,89,94,855, which is 96.56 per cent of the case tally.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.67 per cent which has been less than five per cent for 16 consecutive days.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 39.59 crore people have been tested so far for the virus. Of this, 19,01,056 were tested on Tuesday.

On the vaccination front, till now, 29.46 crore people have been administered a vaccine, with 54.24 lakh being inoculated against the virus in the past 24 hours.(UNI)
