IMD warns of heavy rain in Delhi and NCR, issues orange alert

New Delhi Sep 16 : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Today  issued an orange alert for Delhi and its adjoining areas, predicting heavy rains along with surface wind of 20 to 40 km/hour.

“Thunderstorm with moderate to heavy intensity rain and winds with speed of 20-40 Km/hour would occur over and adjoining areas of many places of North, West, North-West, South-West Delhi, NCR (Bahadurgarh, Gurugram, Manesar),” . IMD said in its morning bulletin.

It said, “Light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of few places of Central, New Delhi, South, South-East, East Delhi, Kandhla, Bagpat, Moradabad, Sambhal, Garhmukteshwar (U.P.) during next 2 hours, during next 2 hours,”.

Today morning, light to moderate rain was reported in several parts of Delhi.

Delhi traffic police in its advisory said “The bridge has been closed due to waterlogging in Prahladpur underpass, traffic from Badarpur to MB Road has been diverted towards Ashram, please refrain from using this route,”.

According to the IMD, Delhi has already recorded 1,146.4 mm rainfall so far this monsoon season, the highest in 46 years.

Meanwhile the minimum temperature in the city settled at 24.8 degrees, whereas the relative humidity at 8.30 a.m. stood at 98 percent.

“The maximum temperature is likely to settle at 33 degree Celsius”, said the IMD.

Meanwhile, the air quality in Delhi has remained in the moderate category in most of the places on Thursday morning.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) the Air quality index (AIQ) in Anand Vihar stood at 149 at 10:00 am.(UNI)
