Hyd: The BJP has complained to the CEO about police detaining BJP workers without permission.

HYDERABAD, MAY 10  :    BJP State unit on Thursday appealed to Telangana state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to transfer West DCP Vijaya Kumar and Borabanda DI Bhupal Gowd for High-Handedness and illegal Detention of BJP Workers during the Door to Door Campaign.
In his letter addressed to CEO Vikas Raj, BJP State unit Election Commission Affairs Committee Chairman Marri Shashidhar Reddy said a five-member BJP team was quietly conducting a door-to-door campaign in Peddamma Nagar at Borabanda on Tuesday. Suddenly, a police patrol reached the spot and took the BJP workers into illegal custody on the grounds that they had not taken permission, he said.
They were taken to the Police Station, even though they were not required to take any police permission, as per the guidelines of the Election Commission.
After reaching the Borabanda police station, the DCP West Zone allegedly abused the BJP workers and following his instructions, Bhupal Gowd manhandled and assaulted the BJP Division president Kotha Venkatesham, he said in the letter.
He (Venkatesham) felt suffocated and suffered bleeding injuries on the lower lip and neck, Reddy said.
The high handedness of the Police has been more pronounced in the run up to the ensuing Lok Sabha Elections, from where Union Minister, State President of the BJP G. Kishan Reddy is the BJP candidate for the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency, he said.
“The presence of DCP Vijaya Kumar and DI Bhupal Gowd, the conduct of free and fair elections will not be possible. We request you to issue directions for the immediate transfer of the two officers,” in view of the fact the polling date is just four days away, Reddy urged the CEO.(UNI)
