Hindustan Tibet National Highway shut
Shimla, Jan 4 : Normal life was thrown out of gear in Shimla district Today following rains and snowfall on the higher reaches, leading to the closure of the Hindustan Tibet National Highway.
An official spokesperson said it was raining intermittently since early morning in most places.
Tourist resort Narkanda had 10 cm snowfall and vehicular traffic was diverted via Basantpur and Sunni. Light snowfall was recorded in the tourist resort Kufri.
Jakhri area in Shimla got rains and light snowfall in high altitude areas.
Snowfall continued at Charike Khirki, Chaambi and Chopal region, turning the roads slippery.
Some 200 roads including four national highways and one state highway became snowbound in the state.
Visibility reduced during the day, forcing many people to remain confined indoors.
The district administration has asked the Public Works Department and Shimla Municipal Corporation to be ready to clear snow from roads.(UNI)
