Hema Malini, the Bollywood dream girl, turns 76.
MUMBAI, OCT 16:Bollywood actress Hema Malini, known for her grace and beauty, completed seventy-six years on Wednesday.
To celebrate the occasion, the magazine Filmfare exhibited some of its incredible covers through the years featuring the quintessential dream-girl.
One of the most recognisable actresses in the history of Hindi cinema, Hema Malini is also a skilled Bharatnatyam dancer, She is currently a Lok Sabha member from Mathura, having won on a BJP ticket.
Hema Malini, born on this day in 1948, got her first success with the film Johnny Mera Naam released in 1970. Actor Dev Anand was in the lead role with her in this film. The audience loved the pairing of Hema and Dev Anand in the film and it was a superhit.
After this, Hema Malini mesmerised the audience with her acting in Ramesh Sippy’s film Andaz released in 1971. In 1972, Hema Malini got the opportunity to work in Ramesh Sippy’s film Seeta aur Geeta which proved to be a milestone in her film career. After the success of this film, she reached the heights of fame. She was also awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her powerful performance in this film.
She has acted in around 100 films including the iconic Sholay.
In 1977, Hema Malini acted in Pramod Chakraborty directed Dream Girl, where she portrayed five characters.
In 1980, Hema Malini tied the nuptial knot with Bollywood’s leading hero Dharmendra, who was then already married to Prakash Kaur.
