Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram, May 12 : Heavy (7- 11 cm in 24 hours) to very heavy (12 -20 cm in 24 hours) rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala on May 12 and 16 and over Lakshadweep on May 16.
Heavy (7- 11 cm in 24 hours) rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala on May 13 and over Lakshadweep on May 12 and 13, according to a MeT press release here today.
Heavy (7- 11 cm in 24 hours) to very heavy (12 -20 cm in 24 hours) rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places in Kerala on May 14 and 15. Heavy (7- 11 cm in 24 hours) to very heavy (12 -20 cm in 24 hours) rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places and Extremely Heavy ( >21cm in 24 hours) at one or two places over Lakshadweep on May 14 and 15.
A Low Pressure Area isvery likely to form over Southeast Arabian Sea around May 14 morning. It isvery likely to concentrate into a Depression over Lakshadweep area andadjoining Southeast and Eastcentral Arabian Sea by May 15.
It is verylikely to move northnorthwestwards and intensify further into a Cyclonic Stormover Eastcentral Arabian Sea around May 16 and continue to move northnorthwestwardsfor some more time with further intensification.
Fishermen out in the deep sea areas of Arabian sea are advised to return to coast by May 14.
Meanwhile, rain occurred at most places in Lakshadweep and at many places in Kerala. Heavy to very heavy rainfall reports in cm are: Thiruvananthapuram City, 16, Kayamkulam and Kayamkulam Agri (both in Alappuzha district), 15 each, Konni (Pathanamthitta district), 12, Kanjirappally (Kottayam district), 11, Neyyattinkara (Thiruvananthapuram district), 10, Punalur (Kollam district), 9, Agathi (Lakshadweep), Varkala (Thiruvananthapuram district), Ponnani (Malappuram district), 8 each, Thiruvananthapuram AP, Mavelikkara (Alappuzha district), 7 each.
The other chief amounts of rainfall reports in cm are: Kollam, Haripad (Alappuzha district), 6 each, Kozhikode, Vaikom (Kottayam district), Thodupuzha (Idukki district), Kuppady (Wayanad district), 5 each, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kochi AP (Ernakulam district), Quilandy (Kozhikode district), 3 each, Nedumangad (Thiruvananthapuram district) and
Cherthala (Alappuzha district), 2 each.
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala and Lakshadweep on May 12 & 13 and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala and Lakshadweep from May 14 to 16.(UNI)
