HC asks Delhi govt’s stand on plea seeking transportation
New Delhi, May 17 :The Delhi High Court Today issued notice to the Delhi government and sought its response on a petition seeking implementation of infrastructure for cremation and transportation of bodies of those who died of Covid-19 pandemic.
A bench headed by Chief Justice D N Patel and comprising Justice Jyoti Singh was hearing the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate Mujeeb Ur Rehman.
The plea also highlighted the need for a sufficient number of mortuaries to store the bodies of the large number of people dying of the viral disease.
Citing the plight of a man, whose parents died of infection, the PIL narrated the ordeal he faced to perform their last rites.
The capital city is lacking a sufficient number of mortuaries, transportation facilities, and space for cremation or burial, it contended.(UNI)
