Hamirpur Health dept conducting SEROLOGY test to detect Covid recurrence
Hamirpur (HP), Sep 3: The Department of Health of the district has been conducting an SERO (SEROLOGY) test in the district these days and is likely to complete it by September 5.
Hamirpur is perhaps the first district in the state where the test is being conducted.
Importantly, the serology test is a blood test that looks for signs of a previous COVID-19 infection. It detects antibodies, which are proteins in the blood that fight off infection. Antibody testing has a lot of promise because it will help us understand the pervasiveness of COVID-19 in our communities.
But, antibody testing shouldn’t be relied on for accurately predicting individual immunity. This means that even if you receive a positive antibody result, showing that COVID-19 antibodies were detected, you will not know with any certainty that you cannot get COVID-19 again.
In general, an antibody test is a blood test that looks for signs of a previous COVID-19 infection.
The Chief Medical Officer of Hamirpur Dr R K, said the people of six years and above were being tested for coronavirus due to vaccination or serosurvey to measure the level of antibodies developed due to infection.
This is part of the 6th serosurvey conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research which will help the government to intervene to prevent the spread of COVID in the future.
District Program Officer, Dr. Sanjay Jagota said 400 samples were being collected by forming clusters at a total of twenty places in Hamirpur district. 20 samples will be collected from each cluster, and the survey would be completed by 5th September.
He has appealed to the people to voluntarily come forward to give blood samples and also appealed for cooperation from the representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions. (UNI)
