Govt targets to achieve 3000 MW renewable energy in next two years: Minister

Hyderabad, Mar 22 : Telangana Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Monday informed the Assembly that the state government has targeted to achieve 3000 MW renewable energy including Solar and wind in the next two years.
Replying to questions from members in the house during question hour, the Minister said that to encourage the renewable energy industries, the state government has introduced Solar Power Policy in 2015 by extending some incentives.
The tariffs of solar power also came down from Rs 15 to Rs 2.50 to Rs 3.
Explaining renewable energy year wise during the last three years, Mr Reddy said it is 3600 MW in 2017-18, 3894 MW in 2018-19 and 3943 MW in 2019-20.
He said that the renewable energy before Telangana statehood was 72 MW. Now it was 4200 MW.
Mr Reddy said the TRS government has met the peak demand of 13,463 MW. This was equal to undivided United Andhra Pradesh peak demand. “The government is ready to meet even 1000 MW more demand “, the Minister said.
Agreeing to the Centre’s intention to fix meters to the pump sets of the agriculture sector, he said the state government has objected to it and the same was informed to the Union government by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao by writing a letter.(UNI)
