Govt exploring possibilities for setting up genomic analysis of Covid 19 samples: Vishwajit Rane

Panaji, April 6: Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has said that the state government would be exploring possibilities for setting up a genomic analysis of the Covid 19 samples within the state.
In a tweet, he said,” We shall be exploring possibilities for setting up a genomic analysis of the samples within the state with infrastructure worth Rs 1.5 crore, the particular study will ascertain the different variants of the virus present in Goa.”
Mr. Rane said testing would be ramped up in the state and the testing machine of Roche would be brought in the state, which would provide an open-source platform for testing kits that would conduct 2500-3000 tests per day.
He said bed capacity would be increased to 300 in South Goa District Hospital while ESI Hospital would function as a Covid Care Center.
Mr. Rane, who held a meeting with the expert committee on April 5, 2021, said, ”In wake of an exponential rise in COVID-19 cases, the disaster management committee will consider imposing certain restrictions in the next three-four days.” (UNI)
