Godavari in spate: Kotipalli-Muktesweram Launch travel suspended
Kakinada, July 10 : Godavari river is in spate due to heavy rains in catchments areas for the past two days and many lanka villages were affected in Konaseema region, official sources said.
The temporary road was washed away due to heavy floods. Four lanka villages including Burugulanka, Pedapudi lanka and Vudimoodi lanka, Acharipet remain cut off from other areas and people are forced to travel by country boats.
The Irrigation authorities have released over 2,00,000 cusecs of water from Dowlesweram Barrage flooding the low lying areas downstream.
The launch travel between Kotipalli – Muktesweram remain suspended as the temporary road at Muktesweram was flooded disrupting the passengers movement.
Since the meteorological department forecast indicate heavy rains till July 12 , as a precautionary measure the district administration has opened control room at Kakinada that works round the clock .
The district collector Kritika Shukla has kept the officials on alert asking them to take necessary rescue and relief measures under disaster management plan of action.
