Goa Assembly adjourned before schedule due to poll model code of conduct

Panaji, Mar 30 : Goa Legislative Assembly was adjourned before its schedule due to the model code of conduct coming into force for the upcoming municipal elections in the state.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the decision was taken in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) which met at the assembly complex.

The budget session had began on March 24 and was scheduled to end on April 16, 2021.

“Since the model code of conduct for the municipal elections has come into force, it is decided in BAC meeting to curtail the ongoing Assembly session. It will begin on July 19,” the Chief Minister said.

Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat moved the resolution in the BAC.

The State Election Committee (SEC) on Tuesday announced that election to five municipal councils would be held on

April 23, 2021.

During the session, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant presented budget for financial year 2021-22. The House passed the vote-on-account for various departments on Tuesday.(UNI)
