G20 meeting on Afghanistan to be expanded with Qatar, IMF, World Bank: Draghi
Rome, Sep 29: The extraordinary G20 summit on Afghanistan will be held in an expanded format with the participation of Qatar, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the World Bank, as well as countries neighboring Afghanistan, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said.
“Part of the discussion will touch upon steps the international community and the G20 want to take to avoid a new transformation of Afghanistan into a nest of international terrorism, therefore [there will be] an exchange of views and experiences on what can be done to avoid a new spread of terrorism to Europe and the surrounding countries. They are fully involved in the Afghan crisis and will receive a voice in the G20, which will have an expanded format. Not only the Netherlands and Spain, which have always been invited, but the UN will be invited, and others such as Qatar, The World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund,” Draghi said.
Earlier at a press conference, he said that an extraordinary summit of the G20 leaders on Afghanistan would be held on October 12. (UNI)
