Four-time TMC MLA from Shyampur Assy Kalipada Mondal expecting a clean sweep
Kolkata, Mar 17 : Four-time Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA from Shyampur Assembly seat in Howrah district Kalipada Mondal is expecting a clean sweep this time as well, against Bengali actress Tanushree Chakraborty of BJP.
Mr Mandal, a senior candidate from the Trinamool Congress who has been on the seat since 2001.
In 2016, Mr Mondal had won the election by receiving 108619 (53.34%) votes while his nearest competitor Amitabha Chakraborty of Indian National Congress (INC) had received 82033 (40.29% ) votes in his favour. Mousumi Biswas of BJP had received 8075 (3.97%) votes.
People in the area said there was no such occasion when a person had given a call to Mr Mondal seeking any sort of help and he had not extended his help. Even in the wee hours he went out to meet people after knowing that a member of their family was seriously ill and needed assistance.
Instead of saying no to anyone’s face in worst cases, when certain work is not under his capacity and needed attention of higher authorities, he fights till end to get the work done for the benefit of common people.
Shyampur Assembly constituency is falling under Uluberia Lok sabha constituency.
In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool Congress candidate Sajda Ahmed won from Uluberia Lok Sabha (MP) Seat with the margin of 215359 votes by defeating Joy Banerjee from Bharatiya Janata Party.
On the other hand, Tanusree joined the BJP only this month on March 9, alongside a host of other new inductees.
After joining BJP, Tanusree revealed that she believes in the ideologies of BJP. The actress said that she has high hopes for the creation of ‘Sonar Bangla’ (Golden Bengal) with her association with the political party.
Tanusree claimed that she being a resident of Bengal had a taste for politics since long.
“People of Bengal are always into political debates and can speak their mind. I have joined BJP as I do believe in its ideology,” she said.
The actress said that she does not believe that actors joining political parties will result in groupism in the Bengali film industry.
“I think that there will not be any groupism with actors joining and work will be work for all,” Tanusree said.
She said that celebs will treat their film work differently than politics
Hailing from Hyderabad, Tanusree is a Bengali model and actress in film and television.
Tanusree came into the limelight with performances in Bengali films such as Uro Chithi (2011), Bedroom (2012), Obhishopto Nighty (2014), Window Connections (2014), Buno Haansh (2014) Khaad (2014) and Gumnaami (2019).
Before pursuing acting, she was a professional model and appeared in a number of advertisements.
Along with films, she has also worked on various television shows. Recently she has been hosting a beauty and lifestyle show called Sampurna on Zee Bangla channel.
The West Bengal election will be conducted in eight phases beginning March 27. Poll results will be declared on May 2.(UNI)
