Former Congress leader asks Priyanka to step down

Lucknow, May 4 :Senior Congress leader and former MLC, Siraj Mehndi, who was expelled from the Party along with some other veteran leaders of the Party last year has held the Congress top leadership including its general secretary Priyanka Gandhi responsible for poor show of the party in recent elections to five states and Panchayat polls in Uttar Pradesh.

Mr Mehndi today in a statement claimed that the dipping graph and popularity of the oldest political outfit of the country is a matter of worry and concern for all the old warriors of the Party and Priyanka Gandhi should take moral responsibility and resign from her post.

“Soon after the panchayat elections were announced in UP, Priyanka Gandhi had took the command and was in regular contact with her UPCC office bearers including State president Ajay Kumar Lallu to ensure a good result so that the Party could get momentum for the next year Assembly election, but the results were just another setback which the Congress is witnessing in every elections held here in UP”, asserted Mehndi while asking Priyanka and Lallu to accept the responsibility of the poor show of the Party.

He also criticized Lallu for his comment that Panchayat elections are not on the priority list of the Congress and that the Party is preparing for the Assembly elections.

Mr Mehndi demanded that the Party high command should immediately serve a show cause notice to all the concerned leaders who were engaged in selection and distribution of tickets for the Panchayat elections along with those who formulated the strategy.

Former MLC also demanded Priyanka Gandhi to step down from the post of General Secretary, incharge UP as since she took charge of the State, the Party’s performance graph is declining with every passing election. He said that a big revamp in the Party is the need of the hour.(UNI)
